Dual Runway Operations

Runway 08R/26L and 08L/26R are not far enough apart to run true parallel operations. Therefore, seperation between traffic arriving and departing on both runways must always be ensured.

Dedicated Runway Operations

Dedicated runway operations sounds exactly as it is said. Typically referred to as the “land one, depart one” meaning you have parallel runways in use, arrivals on one, departures on the other.

Generally you will find Vancouver operating in an East/West configuration with runways 08R/26L and 08L/26R both open for arrivals and departures.
If Dedicated Runway Operations are active runway 08R/26L will typically be used for departures and runway 08L/26R fir arrivals.

Single Runway Operations

For realistic Controllers, you are enabled to run single runway operations to simulate how Vancouver is operating in real time. This could include reasons of construction, snow operations, heavy winds with light traffic counts and any other scheduled or un-scheduled runway closures, even including emergencies during your controlling sessions.

Noise Abatements Operations (non-parallel Runway Operations)

To reduce noise pollution to the residential areas east of CYVR, non-parallel Runway Operations can be used if wind and traffic amount allow. In that operation Runway 26R would be used for departures and 08R used for arrivals.
Non-parallel Runway Operations must be closely communicated with APP & CTR and only operated during low-traffic hours and calm winds (less than 5kts).

Arrivals: 08L / 26R
Departures: 08R / 26L

The preferential runway system is in place between the hours of 2300 - 0600 lcl time and is in place to help alleviate noise over the resedential areas close to the east of the airport. During this time period, even though this is a virtual network, we suggest you use this system during these times. See the non-parallel ops for more info above.

You as the Tower Controller may override these settings to ensure proper safety dictates usage of another runway

Runway 13/31

In a dependent dual configuration of runways 08R/26L and 08L/26R running departures and arrivalss you will have the most effecient operational capacity. CYVR will run this configuration until the crosswind component hits the maximum of 20kts. In that case runway 13/31 must be opened.

Prefered calm wind runways are 26L for departure and 26R for arrivals.
